Literature Text

Howls that screamed out pain and blood, the noise ripping through eardrums and turning people to madness. Arms lay hanging above her head, hands unable to cover her ears to try and silence the agonies of the pained creature. The noise had long since worked under her skin, making her shy away at the noise, making her fear what they might do to her.

The chains held fast, so tight that they did not even jangle. They dug in to her skin, ripping in to her flesh and leaving bloody rivulets tracing paths down her pale skin. Throat had grown bone dry, breaths agonisingly rasping over the rawness, and her tears had since dried up. Her head hung limply forward, dirtied blonde hair scratching at her neck and cheeks. Eyes were half open, dull blue not gazing at anything, chapped lips silently praying.

The noise at the door made her stop, breaths halting. Taps at the door reverberated through her head, making her shake. She knew what was on the other side of that door, she knew what it could do to her. Still the cuts ran deep in her neck, barely scabbed, knowing that too harsh a movement would open the wounds. That creature, the long hated foe of her family; that creature who would rip through flesh as if it were nothing; that creature that would drink blood and lives far easier than a man would water.  That creature which was only separated by an enforced door. Its name, Vampire, the Lords of the Night, the Desecraters of Souls, the undead that would rise from their graves.

If there was one thing she knew it was that there was nowhere worse that she could be than where she was right now. She knew full well what that creature was, what it was capable of; and worse yet, it knew exactly who she was. Now its poison was coursing through her veins, and only by virtue of blood had she not become one of them. The very thought of it made her body try to shudder. How many of them had her family permanently buried, with stakes through their hearts and heads lopped off? How many members of her family had been drunk dry by these blood deprived corpses? And why the hell had this one tried to turn her, knowing full well that her family could not be turned?

His fingers barely touched the door as he tapped at it, the chuckle on his lips could only just be heard before the creature inside roared. Each painful screech ripped at its throat, and haven long screamed itself hoarse it still kept on roaring, its blood spattering the floor from its shattered throat as it carried on howling out its pain. Sliding back the grill he looked inside, eyes keenly admiring his creature. For how many days and nights had he starved the thing? Despite being waif thin it was still nearly ripping the heavy chains from the wall. Those red eyes had been on him as soon as he had opened the grill, glaring their hatred, letting him know its intention to rip him apart. It didn't matter how much the rest of its body moved, those eyes were a constant, firmly watching him.
"Hate me, hate everyone."

The creature stopped, panting hard, spittle dropping from its lips as its body fell in to the cradle of chains. Still those eyes watched him, hatred giving in to pain. Despite being the monster something inside of its head had clicked, some form of understanding. Shutting the grill he unlocked the door, waiting in the way to see what its next move was. It sank, head being brought to the floor by the weight of its collar.
"Do you remember who I am?" No answer. Coming to stand in front of it he bent down, knowing that he was beyond the reach of its chains. Long had it gone beyond the health it had come here in. Ribs and bones showed through beaten skin, long turned black and blue and crimson red; it was hard to see the pale skin that it owned. Flesh had been ripped open, the blood having dried in streams.
"You must be in such agony." His fingers slowly reached out, ready to snatch them back should it attack. Touching its cheek his nails raked down, those red eyes just looking on as its breaths stilled.
"Are you hungry?"

He ran his thin fingers over the cracked lips, tugging them back at the corner. They weren't like a vampire's, it wasn't fangs in place of canines, the entire jaw was lined with them, ready to rip out flesh. He felt as the lips tightened about his finger.
"Are you trying to eat me?" The cough of a snarl, but it got no further.
"Have you realised what you are yet? What you want?" There was no response. Digging his fingers in to a wound he clawed blood out, smearing it across its lips.
"To us, this is just one form of sustenance; but to you, this is your only food source, your one essential."

Pulling out a phial he held it before those eyes, contents the same colour.
"So, are you hungry?" A blink told him enough. Unstopping the phial he poured it on to the floor in front of the creature.
"Drink," he dropped the phial, turning his back. Soon he would be ready to present this creature.

Finally he left and she raised her head again, daring to believe that he had left her for now, but for how long? The moans of that creature had died down, but for how long? How long was it before they started their games of agony again? How long before the creature screamed no more? How long before they turned their attention to her?

The bang at the door scared her, making her jump amidst the chains.
"Oh little one little one, are you in there?" She wanted to shout out, tell it to go away, for that crazed voice did nothing for her nerves, but her voice lay dry in her throat, not even a croak of a noise.
"I know you're in there." That laugh, grating over something. So maniacal that the boarder of reality had been left far beyond the horizon. If there was one thing she hated more than being trapped here, it was that one of her jailers was clearly not sane.
So this one has been in the works for a few years now, and low and behold I am still no closer to doing much work on it. This year I actually got round to writing some of it.

So as every year, this is my Halloween piece, a teaser for a piece of writing I know as Krsnik. Hopefully at some point I will put the full version up.
